Hello Tarot collectors and art supporters, and welcome to the Color Tarot Project’s new newsletter debut! I’m writing to you from the ground floor of our new venture. I’ve organized and art-directed two Tarot projects so far so I feel a little more prepared this time around, but the more you learn the more you become aware of what you can improve, and the work never ends. But let me share my excitement with you now, since you’re here for the ride! I’m launching an incredibly ambitious multi-part project this time: we’ll be making a Tarot deck, an ART BOOK, and hopefully also an Oracle deck. The theme for 2024 over here is stained glass and mosaics!
If you missed our Chromatic Fates Kickstarter and are hoping for a chance at snagging one of the decks, head on over to our Deck Store. We’ve got a limited inventory of remaining Tarot decks and the option to pair them with a screenprinted altar cloth designed by gawki.
Entering the first major stage of a project is always really inspiring and intimidating at the same time. It helps that I’m head-over-heels in love with stained glass and that we’re giving project artists tons of time to learn the style if they haven’t had a chance to yet. Stained glass and mosaic are both extremely labor-intensive form of art that go back hundreds of years. Glass production is also one of our oldest artistic industries. I’m drawn to the historical root of this idea because I want to celebrate the care and effort that goes into being an artist. We’re all so passionate about improving our craft and fulfilling our potential: it’s a lifelong pursuit! This new project will be a true testament to the gorgeous and thought-provoking work of contemporary illustrators.
Can’t wait to share more with you soon!
-Stephanie
PS: Get to know us on our new Substack blog and answer this bonus question (if you’d like!)- What color do you associate with the SWORDS suit?
The Swords seem like a sort of mix between a soft blue and snow glare (complete with the glitter of the sun scattering over the ice crystals). Something a *bit* like blue sapphire (hex code #126180), if you wanted to get real specific about it, although there's a white brilliance to it that's missing here. I have synesthesia; the colors of concepts I associate with Swords are blending together in my head in different layers here---it's pretty cool; I hadn't thought about it much before!
